Poker Hands

Three Card poker, sometimes referred to as Tri-Card poker, basically involves using three cards to make a winning poker hand – as the name would suggest! And, as if playing one game of poker wasn’t enough fun to start with, Three Card poker actually consists of two separate games – the ante and pair plus. The ante game is only your hand against the dealer. Pair plus offers a payout for all hands of a pair or better.

In Three Card poker, a three card straight has a higher value than a three card flush. Aces play both high and low to a straight. An ace high flush is the highest hand you can get in Three Card poker.

When you first start playing you will notice two separate places with which for you to place your bet. You now decide whether to play an ante bet, a pair plus bet, or both. Place your chips in the designated spots in accordance with your game plan.

The dealer will then deal you three cards. Once you pick up your hand and look at your cards you can then work out what the best strategy to go ahead with is. If you have a pair or better, then you would do well to keep the hand. If not, then fold. If you decide to continue and have placed an initial ante bet, then you will now need to make a bet that is equal to your ante bet. If you are just playing pair plus then this is not required.

The dealer will then turn over his cards. If he does not have a queen high or better then he doesn’t ‘qualify’ to play and will pay the remaining players even money on their ante bets. If he does qualify then those who cannot beat his hand will lose their bets and those who can win even money on their ante and any bonuses. In other words, the dealer must have a queen or higher or a pair or better in order to play the game. If he doesn’t you get you money back. If he does, but you have something higher then you win. If you and the dealer both have queens then the player who has the next highest value card wins.

Quite a straightforward variation of poker really, so it’s no surprise this game is growing in popularity in both online and land casinos.
