Seven Card Stud Poker strategy
Seven Card Stud is a very popular poker variant offered by most online casinos but it is by no means a simple game. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em poker and Omaha poker, where the player focuses on and utilises the community cards, Seven Card Stud requires players to be constantly aware of their own cards and the cards they know have already been in play. To be a successful Seven Card Stud player, you’re going to need excellent decision making skills and a good memory.
A large proportion of the decisions your make when playing Seven Card Stud are going to be made based on what cards are currently in play or have been in play. By taking note of the face up cards of the other players, and remembering these even if they fold, you will have a better idea of whether or not your hand has the potential to improve. Observing the amount of a certain suit in play or the rank of certain cards is critical in justifying draws such as flushes, straights, and full houses. Not only that, but if you have a better idea about the cards which are in play then you will get also get a better idea about how your opponent is going to continue playing.
It’s also important as a Seven Card Stud player to learn the art of patience. To start with, you should only play hands which stand a reasonable chance of winning you some money. When players first start out they are full of enthusiasm and are eager to play. This, however, is the best way to lose money. Your hands won’t always be up to scratch and more experienced players will take advantage of your rash choices.
In a similar way, be disciplined with your decisions. You need to recognise when a situation is bad and have the courage to just fold, regardless of how good it might be if you complete your draw. The cards in play, the cards that have been folded, the size of the pot, and the quality of hands on the table should all have a big influence on whether or not you should continue playing. If these things aren’t all lined up for you, then you’re going to need the discipline to be able to back out. Try to remember, that getting lucky every now and again then winning big all in one go is unlikely to happen. Your aim should be to win over the long haul and sometimes that means folding.
