Pineapple High-Low is a brilliant variation of the poker game of Pineapple. It adds an extra element of strategy to the game in that, although it is played in the same was as standard Pineapple Poker, the player with the highest hand at the end of the game will split the pot with the player with the lowest hand.

If you enjoy Texas Hold ‘Em and Omaha, but you’re looking for a different community card game that you can try out, then Pineapple is a brilliant place to start.

In Texas Hold ’Em you start out with two hole cards. In Omaha you start out with four. Pineapple sticks you right in the middle of these two by giving you three. All players examine their three hole cards and decide which on they want to discard. This may be slightly trickier in the High-Low version of this game because at this initial stage in the game, especially before the flop, it is pretty hard to work out whether your hand could be the lowest or the highest hand. Once the players have discarded a card they are then left with two hole cards, the same as Texas Hold ‘Em. A betting round then begins.

After the betting, the Dealer will discard the top card from the deck of cards. This discarded card is known as a ‘Burn Card’.

The dealer will then deal the next 3 cards face up onto the table. This is known as the ‘Flop’.

The dealer then burns another card and deals a single card face up onto the table. This card is known as the ‘Turn card’.

After the Turn card, the dealer burns one final card and deals the last card onto the table. This is known as a ‘River’.

The five face-up dealt cards are community cards that either the player or dealer can use to form a five-card poker hand in combination with their Hole cards.

Whichever online poker room you are playing in will then select automatically the best 5 card poker hand available to you from the community cards and your Hole card. The winnings are then calculated based on the rules of the bet that was placed at the start. The players with the highest and lowest hand then split the pot!
