Andy Frankenberger has been crowned as the WPT Legends of Poker 2010 winner following a long day at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles today. The Wall Street trader picked up a great win worth $750,000 after defeating Kyle Wilson heads up.
The main event at the WPT Legends of Poker had a reduced buy in of $5,000 from the $10,000 of last year. This was to raise the profile and attendance numbers of the WPT’s flagship event. The reduced buy in resulted in a big increase of 66% up to 462 entrants. As all poker players are good with maths I’m sure you’ve noticed that this has resulted in a reduced total prize pool but it’s unlikely Frankenberger will be complaining at his $750,000 win.
Heading into the final table Frankenberger held the chip lead but quickly lost his advantage early on and was left to hang in before putting in a big push. When three handed following the departures of Tom Braband, Jared Jaffee and Franco Brunetti he was able to eliminate 2003 Legends finalist Tom Lee and go into heads up with a big advantage.
He picked up a club flush against Lee to send the match heads up and with a 3:1 chip lead Frankenberger was able to dispose of Kyle Wilson in just a few hands. After his win which has added hugely to his previous live winnings of $200,000 he revealed he will be playing in more major live tournaments:
“You will be seeing a lot more of me for sure”
The WPT’s next event will be the London Poker Classic which runs from August 30th to September 5th which will lead into the English Poker Open and then the World Series of Poker Europe. We can expect to see many of the world’s best poker players to head to London to enjoy the great series of events between now and October.
