The old saying “where there’s a will there’s a way” could be no truer when reading recent comments from top online poker players who have taken drastic measures to get around the US ban on poker.

Homeowners looking to sell their bolt holes in Canada or Europe may do well to convert the spare room home office into an online poker den in order to capitalise on the exodus of US online poker players who are looking to migrate in order to play the game they love.

Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond, a popular online poker pro, announced on Twitter that he had in fact relocated to Canada to see how it goes. Many others are following Galfond’s lead.

Others who have mentioned a moved include Daniel Negreanu (a native Canadian) and Olivier Busquet. Negreanu, who is a live poker legend, has indicated that he will move in order to participate in the WCOP. “Can’t wait for WCOOP’s on PokerStars.com in September! I’ll either be playing from TO or somewhere in Europe.” – Negreanu on Twitter

With poker largely being an international past time now It’s not surprising many poker players have decided to set up home in more poker friendly countries, although it does raise questions over the popularity of events like the WSOP and if the growth of the WSOPE and the EPT will continue to grow to equal status if many of the top players are a short plane, or train ride away..

It is then with a sense of irony that we will watch the final table where the November Nine will battle it out for the top World Series of Poker as the majority of the line up are non US citizens! Will this mark the start of a more European identity for Poker?

One place where there will be many top poker names on UK soil is the 2011 Poker in the Park being held in Hanover Square at the start of September.

If you are a US player and cannot afford to move across the pond then check out our Carbon Poker Poker Rakeback deal

Normally we advocate that Rakeback is the best way to get money back from poker even when you lose the hand, but the recent Bad Beat Jackpot winner at Poker Heaven proves that sometimes to lose can pay out big time!
The player from Finland who is aptly named OmgoMgomGo had one of those sinking moments we have all experienced when you have an unbeatable hand on any other day but at that moment the Bad Beat of a lifetime comes up. This time losing with quad kings was not the tilt inducing bad beat and actually resulted in the player winning a world record Bad Beat Jackpot.
He received $640,696 (EUR442,954). Hand winner with Quad Aces, 7Adelaida7, won $320,391 (EUR221,477). The other 7 players in the hand all received $45,766 each (EUR31,639) for participating in the hand.
OmgoMgomGo, who joined Poker Heaven earlier this year after seeing the great array of promotions available, was unsurprisingly delighted:
“WOOOOOOOOW!! I had KK and all the money went in pre-flop. Once I hit my quads and saw the second Ace come on the river I was hoping that my opponent had hit their 1 outer! When I realised it had happened I was so happy, I still cannot believe it! The atmosphere at the table when it hit was great and I would like to thank all of the players and the Poker Heaven staff for their best wishes. As for what I am going to do with the cash, I am planning to buy a house, a car and will certainly be partying hard.”

William Scott, VP GTECH G2 said:
“These are exciting times at IPN. We’ve raised the bar with a massive new world record and with our EUR2 Million investment into the IPN, we are committed to delivering even bigger promotions and tournaments to our players.”

If you want to play on the IPN Network and enjoy rakeback look at our Poker Heaven Rakeback and Paradise Poker Rakeback deals.

We spend a lot of time bringing you news and promotions from all the best poker sites that sometimes we forget to explain how rakeback works and why some sites prefer to offer rakeback but other sites don’t. For example there is no such thing as Bodog rakeback but Full Tilt are more than happy to let us offer 27% rakeback. Here’s a brief explanation of what we do for you and how we both benefit.

Rakeback is essentially a third party loyalty program for poker players at poker sites that rewards players for their loyalty. If you play real money poker you pay rake and this is where poker sites make their money. Rakeback essentially returns some of this rake that you pay back into your account. It is absolutely free and you still get access to all the normal promotions and the sign up bonuses that poker sites offer. The big difference is you get rakeback on every real money hand you play where you pay rake. Rakeback is normally thought to be worth approximately 2/3 big blinds per 100 hands (between one fifth and one quarter of a regularly winning player’s profits).

Online poker sites have different strategies to attract new players to their site and different strategies to keep them playing at the site. Every poker site has their own loyalty programs and some are very worthwhile for professionals and grinders who play huge amounts of hands. For the more casual poker player however these loyalty programs aren’t that rewarding.

One strategy for poker sites is to use companies like ourselves to help promote their site. We let people know about promotions, news and whatever else is going on at their site. In exchange we negotiate a rakeback deal for our players. The poker sites then let us offer this third party reward system to poker players that we get to join them. They also pay us some rake for our work but this is factored into their marketing costs.

Some poker sites prefer to do all their marketing themselves such as PokerStars and Bodog and rely on different ways of rewarding players other than rakeback. These sites will appear on sites like ours as they still reward us but we can’t reward our players with rakeback.

Unfortunately for our poker players looking at joining a new site we aren’t able to offer Bodog rakeback but we do have rakeback at lots of other poker sites.

Would Obama seem quite so sleek and competent without the perfectly groomed Michelle supporting him in the wings?

Would Simon have been able to pen all those superhits without Garfunkel?

And would Luke Duke have been so uber-cool without Bo and Daisy Duke jumping in and out of his car window too?

But whilst we will never know for sure, I would say not. Things just seem to work better when done in partnership.

Clearly, working in partnership on a poker game, wouldn’t work at all due to the strict rules preventing unfair advantage. It would also quite likely be cause for an ‘overnight stay’ at one of the finest custodial concrete and metal bedrooms.

But that having been said, there is one way to work in a poker partnership that can yield very tangible rewards. Rakebackpartners.com offers the opportunity to start your own affiliate rakeback site with all the hard work done for you.

If you have ever thought about starting your own white label rakeback site, sometimes described as being a rakeback affiliate, then take a look at RakebackPartners. They deal with all of the player and online poker room relationship management and all of the accounting, leaving you to market your site and earn the commissions from every player you sign up.

In every sense your site is your own. It can be hosted by you, named and branded by you. You can select the online poker rooms you want to show and develop an active blog, but you can also leave all the time consuming elements to RakebackPartners.

This is definitely a match made in heaven! RakebackPartners do the work and you count the rewards!

In the current climate of unemployment and the general doom and gloom that accompanies a recession, many of us will be pondering how best to continue earning a living. Many assume that gambling is perhaps not the ideal career choice, yet there are many worse and less profitable ways to pay the bills.

For instance, and with hindsight, how many of us would choose to be furthering our careers within a bank or building society?

So when the young Frenchman Adrien Allain decided to give online poker a go, it’s lucky he didn’t listen to anyone advising him against it. As he recently won the 2009 Asian Poker Tour Macau Festival main event, he seems to be enjoying the last laugh.

And best of all, Allain’s route to triumph was that he won the chance to play in the APT through a $5 online poker lottery tournament!

His win of 3,035,000 Hong Kong Dollars (£240,196) is a massive increase on his previous best, an $8000 online poker tournament prize.

So is this proof enough to allay fears of a career development strategy which takes you into poker playing? Well, there is no doubt that Allain has talent. Now he has the money and the opportunity to turn pro. Who knows where your online poker playing could lead you, but one thing’s for sure, you need to seize the opportunity when it presents itself.

There’s plenty of free tuition on poker websites and a wealth of information on the best online poker rooms, promotions and rakeback deals is available on raketherake.com. RakeTheRake covers all of the best online poker rooms, such as Absolute Poker, Betfair, Cake, Carbon Poker and PKR. Think of Adrien Allain’s success and go for it!

To select from the very best online poker rooms visit
http://www.raketherake.com/RakebackOffers.html

The highly anticipated Poker in the Park festival is approaching quickly, and if you’ve ever wanted to know what it takes to become the champion at a Main Event then this is the perfect opportunity. There will be free lectures being delivered by Jamie Gold, Peter Eastgate, and Annete Obrestad at the poker festival in Leicester Square on Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th of August 2009.
There will also be appearances from former East Enders star turned WSOP finalist Michael Greco, former Ireland International Tony Cascarino, Sky Poker regular Nick Wealthall, plus Black Belt Poker founders Neil Channing and Nik Persaud.
Bluff Europe magazines editor-in-chief and event organiser Michael Caslli said that “The line-up we have at Poker in the Park is the kind of line-up you’d expect to see at one of the world’s major tournaments” and also pointed out that “If you wanted to pay these players individually to teach you how to play poker then you’d spend over £100,000!”
At Poker in the Park the information is completely free! So why not head down to Leicester Square next month and make the most of this absolutely amazing opportunity!

Could there be a sequel to classic poker film Rounders? Well recent reports are suggesting that it is definitely a possibility.
Matt Damon was asked about the likelihood of a sequel and said “Maybe someday it will happen. The only reason to do a movie like that would be if we had a great idea. If the two writers suddenly said eureka! We have a great idea. Then everyone involved would be interested in exploring it.”
Encouragingly, it also looks like the original writers are in fact tossing around a few ideas for a sequel to Rounders. It’s been reported that co-writer, David Levien, has said “We’ve been concentrating on Rounders 2 lately; Ideas are percolating. It’s great to know that all of the original players want to come back and do another one.”
When Matt Damon was asked about which of the original cast would be up for a sequel he replied “”Everybody would probably come back. The actors all had a really good time working together. I know Edward would want to do it; we had a blast working together. [Director] John Dahl I’m sure would like to do it.”
Fans of the original movie will be incredibly excited at this news which seems very promising. And while Rounders 2 would be an excellent addition to any poker lovers DVD library – you could always just sign up to one of your favourite poker rooms today and start living the dream yourself!
