This November during the Final Table of the WSOP Main Event two new poker players will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Nominations have already been received for 181 poker players with this list to be whittled down to a top 10 who will then be voted on.
World Series of Poker (WSOP) Communications Director Seth Palansky: “It’s going well and we’ll have a good batch of candidates to mull over and see who gets in.”
In order to nominate a player the public must visit the WSOP website and enter their name, address, country of origin, date of birth and email along with the name of the nominee and comments they have to support their choice. The nomination period ends on 31st August.
According to the WSOP website the requirements for nomination to the Poker Hall of Fame are:
“A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition; played for high-stakes; played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers; stood the test of time; or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker with indelible positive and lasting results.”
Last year nine names were sent to existing Hall of Fame members and the media panel last year: Mike Secton (inducted) Phil Ivey, Tom McEvoy, Daniel Negreanu, Erik Seidel, Dan Harrington, Scotty Nguyen, Men “The Master” Nguyen, and Barry Greenstein.
Last year Tom Dwan who had just turned 23 at the time of his nomination was omitted on the grounds that he had not stood the test of time. Whether his momentous 2009 will have changed the committee’s views waits to be seen. Without a WSOP bracelet to his name Dwan may still find it difficult to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame just yet.
If you want to play a part in making poker history then submit your nominations at the World Series of Poker website before August 31st.
