The high stakes online poker tables have been brimming with action in August as all the top stars have returned to their computers from the World Series of Poker. Players like Tom Dwan, Phil Galfond, Daniel Negreanu, Ilari Sahamies and Patrick Antonius have all been very active along with the thorn in Dwan’s side Scott “URnotINdanger2” Palmer.
Dwan has had a momentous year already on the tables winning nearly $5m this year including a hugely successful August which has seen him nearly reach the $1m mark for the month before losing some big pots to Palmer who has proved to be the online poker stars’ nemesis.
Ilari Sahamies suffered some serious damage at the start of this month losing over $600,000 in one weekend and posted on his blog that he would be quitting the high stakes for the rest of the month. After the last few days showing he will wish he had followed through in his promise. He has managed to drop a further $170k to Phil Galfond and Patrik Antonius.
Antonius has been trailing badly in the durrrr challenge and is now down nearly $2m against Tom Dwan and is set to lose another $500k when the challenge is complete unless he can perform a swing the likes of which is very rarely seen at these levels.
Another Scandinavian in a lot of trouble is Dane Gus Hansen who has had a horrible August dropping $1m in total with losses to almost everybody at the high stakes these players favour. The Full Tilt tables have been thriving recently and even Phil Ivey has been seen enjoying the action away from the Phil Ivey Room at the Aria.
