According to a story published in London paper The Daily Mail, Party Poker are gearing themselves up for a long awaited return to US soil after agreeing a tie up with a major land-based casino. Party Gaming has recently been active forming its merger with bwin which is expected for the end of March and a move to allow US players to play on its network would be a huge boost not only to Party but also poker as a whole.
According to the Daily Mail and its sources the deal was agreed at the International Casino exhibition back in January in London but clearly only one side of the deal is known as the Casino itself has not yet been named with Boyd Gaming, MGM Resorts, Las Vegas Sands and Caesars Entertainment all in the running. Not a shock that the Daily Mail named the four biggest casino owners in Las Vegas!
When the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) Party removed itself from the US market and has been making amends every since with one owner paying the US government $300m as a fine for violating American laws prior to UIGEA. Party Gaming itself is in the middle of paying off its own $105m fine.
These conciliatory measures that Party have taken are putting them in a strong position to re-enter the market whereas sites like Full Tilt and PokerStars may find their positions extremely tenuous if new legislation is passed. For now though Full Tilt and PokerStars are marching on with the current FTOPS XIX experiencing record numbers and PokerStars showing steady traffic growth.
None of the parties involved in the story have been drawn to comment but insiders claim the deal is extremely lucrative for Party and will see them well positioned if the US market is opened up with new regulation.
